Freshwater Fish

Freshwater fish are fish that spend thier entire lives in freshwaters like rivers, lakes and in some cases freshwater aquariums. To survive in freshwater, the gills of these fish must be able to diffuse the freshwater while also keeping enough salt in their body.

My freshwater aquarium is full of all different kinds of freshwater pet fish, big and small. Recently, the favorite amongst spectators has been my new Glofish. ALthough pretty small in size, there colorful fish really seem to liven up the whole aquarium. Glofish have an extra protein gene that makes them appear fluorescent, hence the name Glofish. Each fish inherits it's unique color gene from it's parents and will eventually pass it on to their offspring.

Glofish, which are just zebrafish with an enhanced gene, were once bred for detecting pollutants. Now these colorful fish make grea pet fish in ofices, homes, classrooms and dorms all over the country. These striking freshwater fis are available in red, green and orange.

1800glofish.com sells these Glofish in complete aquatium kits that make maintenance and setup simple. The kit comes with a 1.5-gallon freshwater tank,3,6,or 9 glofish and 24 LED lights in white, blue and black that showcase your pet fish's beautiful color. These beautiful, hardy freshwater fish have added much excitement to my aquarium; I would recommend them to anyone.
